The Heavy-Duty Greenhouse Gas Certification Section is responsible for the certification of heavy-duty vehicles (tractors and vocational vehicles), trailers, aerodynamic devices, and zero emissions powertrains. The applicable greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations are contained in Sections 95660-95664, Title 17, California Code of Regulations (17 CCR) and the California Greenhouse Gas Exhaust Emissions Standards and Test Procedures for 2014 and Subsequent Model Year Heavy Duty Vehicles.

The Heavy-Duty Greenhouse Gas Section was created in December 2019 to implement the newly adopted California Phase 2 GHG Emissions Standards, which set forth new GHG standards and certification requirements for medium and heavy - duty vocational vehicles and tractors as well as trailers. This Section conducts evaluations and processes the associated certifications to approve for sale vehicles that comply with the Heavy-Duty GHG requirements.
