The F-Gas Incentive Program (FRIP) is designed to promote the adoption of climate-friendly low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant technologies. Pursuant to SB 1013, FRIP received first-time funding of $1,000,000 in fiscal year 2019-2020. The first round of FRIP awards supported the food retail sector’s transition to best available refrigerant technologies.
In the 2022-23 Budget, the legislature allocated $45 million to bolster efforts to reduce F-gas emissions and expand the adoption of ultra-low-GWP refrigerants. This increased funding will support California’s short-term climate goals and long-term goal of statewide carbon neutrality.
