Smoke Management Program
Technical Tools

This page is intended to serve as a source of technical tools to assist burners and air quality managers with smoke management planning and emissions forecasting.

Current Technical Tools Include:

  • Interagency Real Time Smoke Monitoring

  • BlueSky - A modeling framework to predict cumulative impacts of smoke from agriculture, forest and range fire.
    (For CANSAC BlueSky Products, click "Air Quality Products";)

  • Two Versions of a Draft Smoke Management Plan (Short Form and Long Form) developed by the ARB / CAPCOA Uniform Smoke Management Plan Working Group.

  • Emission Factors for combustion of various vegetation fuel types.

  • Controlled Burn Notices (CB-3) for districts that use ARB Meteorology Staff for 24-hour decision, 48-hour forecast and 72-hour outlook.

  • Internet Available Information on meteorology and weather, air quality, satellite data, emissions data and available computer models.

The Prescribed Fire Incident Reporting System (PFIRS) is currently undergoing beta-testing.
