Concerning Climate Change

Chairman Rajendra K. Pachauri

Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means "the whole universe is one family" is a theme that Chairman Pachauri often quotes to define global efforts to protect the globe from climate change. Dr. Pachauri will discuss the need for collective scientific endeavors, the need for shaping necessary public policy for sustainable development to meet effective objectives toward lowering the global impacts of climate change asserting that threats to health and the global economy are too great if robust global action is not taken.

Rajendra Pachauri, Ph.D., is Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).  On behalf of the IPCC, co-received the coveted Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President, Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. in December 2007. Dr. Pachauri is also the Director-General of The Energy and Resources Institute - an institute dedicated to sustainable deveopment.

Born in Nainital, India, 1940, Dr. Pachauri did his graduation from La Martiniere College in Lucknow. Dr. Pachauri started his career at the Diesel Locomotive Works (Varanasi) serving various managerial positions. Dr. Pachauri went to North Carolina State University for higher studies. He did his MS in Industrial Engineering (1972), Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Ph.D. in Economics. From August 1974 to May 1975, he served as Assistant Professor, and Visiting Faculty Member (summers 1976-1977) in the Department of Economics and Business. Dr. Pachauri became the Member Senior Faculty in the Administrative Staff College of India (1975). Dr. Pachauri became the Director of the Consulting and Applied Research Division (1979).  Dr. Pachauri served as the Visiting Professor of Resource Economics at the College of Mineral and Energy Resources, West Virginia University (1981).  Served as the Senior Visiting Fellow at the Resource Systems Institute (1981).

1988 - President of the International Association for Energy Economics.
1989 - Chairman of the International Association for Energy Economics.
1992 - President of the Asian Energy Institute.
1993 - Chairman of the World Energy Council.
1999 - Board of Directorsof the Indian Oil Corporation.
2001 - Member of the Economic Advisory Council, Honored with Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.
Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).  Board of Directors of National Thermal Power Corporation.
2003 - Board of Directors of the GAIL India, Ltd.
