Staff Air Pollution Specialist

The Emissions Certification and Compliance Division (ECCD) is recruiting for a Staff Air Pollution Specialist (SAPS) position for its Compression-Ignition and Heavy-Duty (CIHD) Certification Section. The incumbent will be the lead person on confirmatory, compliance and audit testing. SAPS will be responsible for determining and conducting enhanced testing protocol intended to identify emissions in the test lab and in the field, outside of regulatory prescribed requirements.

Air Resources Engineer

ECCD

The Aftermarket Advanced Technology Section is responsible for evaluating performance parts and retrofit systems to ensure they have no negative impact on vehicle/engine emissions. The evaluation process involves technical assessment, design, and monitoring of test programs and analysis of emission test data. The section recommends approval of parts that comply with the procedures, allowing manufacturers to sell their products in California. The section also issues experimental permits and conducts special studies related to emissions of aftermarket parts.

Air Resources Field Representative II

MSLD

The Portable Emission Measurement Section (PEMS) is looking for a Field Representative II to perform emissions evaluations of light-duty (LD), and heavy-duty (HD) vehicles and equipment. The successful candidate will work in a team setting instrumenting test vehicles with PEMS equipment, driving test vehicles on public roadways, and data analysis. The PEMS section is currently located in El Monte, California however plans are underway to move to the new Air Resources Board Southern California Headquarters in Riverside California.

The Measurement and Technology Assessment Section is looking for a qualified engineer to perform emissions evaluation of heavy-duty vehicles and engines using chassis and engine dynamometers. MTAS is located in Downtown Los Angeles. The successful candidate will work in a team setting performing testing of conventional, hybrid, and electric powered heavy-duty vehicles/engines. Duties will include all aspects of preparing a test article for dynamometer testing as well as conducting emissions measurement including post processing of data.

Air Resources Technician II

The Air Quality and Climate Science Section (Section) in the Atmospheric Science and Climate Strategies Branch, Research Division is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team in air quality research to support CARBís emission reduction strategies (e.g., State Implementation Plan). Under general supervision by the section manager or senior staff, this incumbent is expected to conduct analyses for criteria pollutants (e.g., ozone, PM2.5, and their precursors) and toxic air contaminants and to assist in air quality research campaigns to gather field measurements. This includes assessing the data post-processing, data quality assurance, reviewing ambient and emission inventory data, and conducting spatial and temporal analyses of these pollutants on large air quality and emission datasets using tools such as GIS, Python, MATLAB, Visual Basic, IGOR, R, or other programming skills.

The South Coast Air Quality Planning Section is responsible for developing federally-mandated air quality plans to meet health based standards for ozone and particulate matter. This section is also responsible for tracking California’s progress in implementing these plans. The Freight Operations Section is looking for friendly, outgoing people who can work a core schedule of four days per week, 7 hours each day to help with the Air Resources Board Equipment Registration program (ARBER) and regulatory development.
