The fuel efficiency and emission benefits of hybrid, natural gas, and zero-emission vehicle technologies provide a strong public health benefit by reducing harmful greenhouse gas and criteria emissions.

Since one of the greatest barrier to purchasing cleaner vehicles is the higher price, the California Air Resources Board operates the following incentive programs to accelerate the purchase of cleaner and more efficient vehicles:

Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project or HVIP
ARB Loan Program
Carl Moyer Memorial Air Quality Standards Attainment Program
Goods Movement Emission Reduction Program (Prop 1B)
On-Road Voucher Incentive Program (VIP)
The Truck Improvement/Modernization Benefitting Emission Reductions (TIMBER) Program
School Buses

A one page summary designed for Trucks and Buses is available here.

In addition, the HVIP program is one of the main funding tools for cutting edge commercialized vehicle technologies. The program offers incentives of up to $315,000 in available funding per vehicle, which varies by vehicle and technology. HVIP works closely equipment dealers to apply the incentive at the time of purchase so there is no waiting for a rebate check or a tax credit. The amount is targeted to offset about 80% of the incremental cost of hybrid and electric trucks and buses and the full incremental cost for low-NOx engines relative to standard natural gas engines.

To date, HVIP has deployed more than 3,500 medium to heavy-duty vehicles, with more than 1,100 fleets participating across California. Vouchers are first come first served so don’t delay! Click below to visit the HVIP website:
