Vehicle Financing Project
The Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDC) runs a financial assistance program that offers bay area residents in disadvantaged communities the opportunity to purchase cleaner vehicles including hybrids and battery electric vehicles. Program benefits include grants that reduce the cost of the vehicle and loans for eligible consumers.
|Step 1||Do you live in an eligible zip code within the Bay Area?|
The program is available to residents of disadvantaged neighborhoods in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, or San Francisco Counties. However, eligibility is determined by zip code (not by city or county). For a complete list of eligible zip codes, please visit drivingclean.chdcnr.com.
|Step 2||Is your household income below the eligible levels?|
Eligible applicants must have an income that is at or below 400% of the federal poverty line (FPL). The chart below provides the maximum income level based on family size.
|Step 3||Are you eligible?|

- You are at least 18 years old with challenged credit
- You can demonstrate the ability to repay the loan and cover expenses related to car ownership and insurance
- You have been employed at least 6 months

|Step 4||What types of vehicles can be purchased through this program?|
Financing assistance is available for eligible cleaner, fuel efficient vehicles:
- Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV)
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV)
- Battery electric vehicles (BEV)
- Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV)
Grants to help reduce the cost of PHEVs and BEVs may also be available.
