Conventional Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Conventional Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)

  • Powered by gas using an internal combustion engine (ICE) and by an electric motor that uses energy stored in a battery
  • The battery is charged through regenerative braking and through the ICE
  • Better fuel economy and lower emissions than comparable conventional vehicles
  • The vehicle does not need to be plugged in to charge
  • Maintenance similar to conventional vehicles

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

  • Use batteries to power an electric motor and uses another fuel, such as gasoline to power an ICE
  • The battery can be charged by plugging into an electric power source, through regenerative braking, and through the ICE
  • So long as the battery is charged, vehicle can draw most of its power from electricity stored in the battery during typical urban driving
  • Vehicles consume less gasoline and typically produce lower emissions than similar conventional vehicles
  • Maintenance similar to conventional vehicles

Battery Electric Vehicle

Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

  • Use batteries to store the electrical energy that powers one or more motors
  • Batteries are charged by plugging the vehicle into an electric power source, such as a wall outlet or charging station
  • Do not have ICEs and, therefore, do not produce tailpipe emissions
  • Driving range is 70-90 miles, some models have longer ranges. Range varies according to driving conditions and driving habits
  • Typically requires less maintenance than conventional vehicles or even HEVs or PHEVs – fewer moving parts and fewer fluids to change

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)

  • Combines hydrogen gas with oxygen from the air to produce electricity which drives an electric motor
  • Produces no harmful tailpipe emissions
  • Typical range is 312 miles, similar to conventional gasoline cars
  • Cars currently leased to customers in select regions
  • Fueling infrastructure currently being developed – 25 stations open in California with another 25 stations planned by the end of 2017. You may search the Station Map for the closest hydrogen fueling station using your ZIP code.
  • Three years of Hydrogen fuel included in the lease or purchase
