EPA Says Ports Can Do More on Air Pollution
A U.S. EPA report has found that air pollution at the nation’s
ports can be reduced significantly at all port types and sizes
through a variety of strategies and cleaner technologies.
Implementing these approaches, the report finds, would reduce
greenhouse gas and other harmful emissions from diesel-powered

CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate Change Could Be a Tougher Test Than War
Imagine an entirely plausible scenario for the effects of climate
change in 2045. The Greenland ice sheet has melted entirely,
adding 20 feet to the oceans. Unprecedented outbreaks of pests
have ruined crops of corn, wheat and rice around the world,
causing food shortages and riots. In the U.S., the army patrols
major cities.

Has a decade of Golden State climate diplomacy made a difference?

Soil carbon storage not the climate change fix it was thought,
research finds
Hopes that large amounts of planet-warming carbon dioxide could
be buried in soils appear to be grossly misplaced, with new
research finding that the ground will soak up far less carbon
over the coming century than previously thought.

ENERGY

The full bench of the U.S. Court of Appeals is set to hear
arguments on the Clean Power Plan on September 27.
The court called for an en banc review earlier this year,
foreseeing that any outcome of a three-judge panel review would
have been insufficient and a full court would be requested.
