schoolbus -- The Lower-Emission School Bus Program Replacement School Bus Emission Criteria

Posted: 21 Oct 2015 16:53:34
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has posted Mail-Out #MSC
15-26, titled “The Lower-Emission School Bus Program –
Replacement School Bus Emission Criteria – Effective January 1,
2016 until Rescinded”. ARB staff has determined that the maximum
emission criteria for replacement school buses will remain
unchanged at 0.20 gram per brake horsepower-hour (g/bhp-hr) NOx
and 0.01 g/bhp-hr particulate matter. Furthermore, rather than
annual evaluations, any future change to the established emission
criteria will be made via Mail-Out. Until then, the emission
criteria for replacement school buses is 0.20 g/bhp-hr NOx and
0.01 g/bhp hr PM.

The Mail-Out may be found on ARB’s webpage at:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/bonds/schoolbus/advisory/advisory.htm .

Background:

The primary goal of ARB's Lower-Emission School Bus Program is to
reduce school children's exposure to both cancer-causing and
smog-forming pollution. The program provides grant funding for
new, safer school buses and to put air pollution control
equipment (i.e., retrofit devices) on buses that are already on
the road.
