shorepower -- Approval Executive Order AB-15-01 - Clean Air Engineering-Maritime, Inc.
Posted: 26 Jun 2015 16:25:57
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has issued an Executive Order (EO) to Clean Air Engineering-Maritime relating to ARB approval of control efficiencies for the Marine Exhaust Treatment System-1 (METS-1), an alternative control technology that can be used for compliance with the airborne toxic control measure for Auxiliary Diesel Engines Operated on Ocean-going Vessels At-Berth in a California Port (At-Berth Regulation). The EO, AB-15-01, applies to Clean Air Engineering’s METS-1 and allows the use of METS-1 by container vessels for compliance with the At-Berth Regulation. The EO identifies the approved control efficiencies for METS-1, operating parameters, monitoring requirements, and recordkeeping requirements for METS-1. To view the EO, please go to ARB’s At-Berth Regulation website at the URL below and click on the link for “Executive Orders for Approved Alternative Technologies” on the left side of the page. http://www.arb.ca.gov/ports/shorepower/shorepower.htm If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Jonathan Foster, Air Resources Engineer, at (916) 327-1512 or shorepower@arb.ca.gov. Background: In December 2007, the Air Resources Board approved the At-Berth Regulation. The purpose of the regulation is to reduce emissions from diesel auxiliary engines on container ships, passenger ships, and refrigerated-cargo ships while berthing at a California Port. The regulation provides two options to reduce at-berth emissions: 1) turn off auxiliary engines and connect the vessel to some other source of power; or 2) use ARB approved alternative control technique(s) that achieve equivalent emission reductions. California is in a drought emergency. Visit www.SaveOurH2O.org for water conservation tips.
