sf6nonelec -- March 30 Deadline for SF6 Sales and Research Use Reporting

Posted: 25 Mar 2015 13:44:05
The annual reporting deadline for 2014 calendar year for SF6
sales and research use is March 30, 2015. The Regulation for
Reducing Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) Emissions from non-electric
and non-semiconductor applications, Title 17, California Code of
Regulations, sections 95340 to 95346, was approved by the
California Air Resources Board (ARB) on February 26, 2009, and
the regulation became effective January 1, 2010. SF6 is a potent
greenhouse gas, with a global warming potential 22,800 times that
of carbon dioxide.

Section 95345 (e) requires distributors and sellers of SF6 in
California to submit annual sales data to ARB no later than March
30 of the following year. These data must provide information on
individual transactions including the intended use by
transaction. These reports will verify and quantify California
sales of SF6 and ensure requirements are met.

A link to a spreadsheet form for reporting sales data can be
found at
http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/sf6nonelec/sf6salesreportingform.htm.

Section 95345 (d) requires all research facilities that purchase
or use SF6 for research purposes, except for those users exempted
under section 95341(a) (1-9), to submit an annual report to ARB
no later than March 30 of the following year. This report must
include totals of SF6 used for each research activity,
explanations of these activities, and a description of efforts to
minimize SF6 emissions.

NOTE: Section 95342 (a) (18) specifies that a Research Facility
MUST, for the purpose of this regulation, be a U.S. government
owned national laboratory or an accredited post-secondary
institution that grants advanced academic degrees. Any other
facility performing research that is NOT exempted under section
95341(a) (1-9) is in violation of California law and must either
discontinue use or apply for an exemption from the regulation
immediately.

Information for the 2014 calendar year must be reported by March
30, 2015. Please send via email attachment to Winston Potts, Air
Resources Engineer, wpotts@arb.ca.gov.
