Background: The Car Sharing Pilot Project provides funding for
advanced clean car sharing fleets in disadvantaged communities to
offer an alternate mode of transportation and encourage the use
of clean cars. The project will provide Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and
criteria pollutant emission reduction benefits to specific
disadvantaged communities and will be used to gather data that
could help support larger scale advanced technology car share
programs. Eligible disadvantaged communities are identified by
the California Environmental Protection Agency’s California
Communities Environmental Health Environmental Health Screening
Tool (CalEnviroScreen 2.0) that assesses all census tracts in
the State to identify areas disproportionately burdened by and
vulnerable to multiple sources of pollution. Eligible project
types include traditional car sharing models as well as
vanpooling, shuttles, and other advanced technology mobility
options.
