The Preliminary Draft Staff Report on SB 375 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Target Update Process presents several factors for consideration in updating the SB 375 targets and target setting methodology, and is intended to solicit input from stakeholders and Metropolitan Planning Organizations prior to the October 2014 Board meeting on this topic. The Preliminary Draft Staff Report on SB 375 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Target Update Process is available at http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/sb375/pre_draft_target_update_sr.pdf . The Air Resources Board (ARB) is required to update the SB 375 targets at least every eight years, and may revise them every four years. In January 2014, ARB staff briefed the Board on the status of SB 375 implementation. At that time, the Board directed staff to conduct additional public outreach with stakeholders on a methodology for updating the targets, and return to the Board in the fall for further discussion about a preferred approach for updating the targets. ARB staff will consider all input received at three public workshops around the State in September 2014, before preparing a revised staff report with recommendations for target updates. The revised staff report and recommendations will be presented to the Board at a public meeting in October 2014. The Sustainable Communities Strategy is designed to better integrate land use and transportation policies to meet long term sustainability goals. To help guide these regional planning efforts, the California Air Resources Board is required to establish regional greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for 2020 and 2035. Initial targets for the Metropolitan Planning Organizations’ regions were established in 2010. California is in a drought emergency. Visit www.SaveOurH2O.org for water conservation tips.
