The Air Resources Board (ARB) is providing Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Regulation information on 2012 vehicle manufacturer status, 2012 California vehicle production of large and intermediate volume manufacturers, ZEV credit balances, and ZEV credit transfers as of September 30, 2013. Background: In 1990, the ARB adopted an ambitious program to significantly reduce the environmental impact of light-duty vehicles through commercial introduction of ZEVs into the California fleet. The ZEV Regulation remains critically important in meeting California's health-based air quality goals and greenhouse gas reduction goals, and has spurred many new technologies that are being driven on California's roads today, such as battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and hybrid electric vehicles. Vehicle manufacturers are required to produce a number of ZEVs and ZEV-enabling technologies each year.
