Thank You Dimitri Stanich ARB/PIO _______________________________________________________________ Release 07-33 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 20, 2007 Leo Kay (916) 322-2990 www.arb.ca.gov Statement by Mary Nichols on the death of Dr. Henry Gong Sacramento: The Air Resources Board is deeply saddened by last week's death of Board Member Dr. Henry Gong. Dr. Gong died peacefully Thursday night at his home in Southern California surrounded by family members after an unsuccessful battle with heart problems. As one of the 11-member Air Resources Board, Dr. Gong brought a unique, invaluable perspective to air issues as a physician specializing in pulmonary health. He would often cite data from his health studies in helping guide his fellow Board members to passing protective public health regulations on everything from tougher diesel regulations to more stringent air quality standards. All of us who breathe California's air owes a debt of gratitude to Dr. Gong as one of the state's true clean air champions. We will miss him. The Air Resources Board is a department of the California Environmental Protection Agency. ARB's mission is to promote and protect public health, welfare, and ecological resources through effective reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and considering effects on the economy.
