The staff presentation is now available for the July 28, 2011 public workshop to discuss a proposed certification path for specially constructed vehicle (kit car) engines. Background The Air Resources Board (ARB or Board) is currently considering a new procedure to evaluate and certify new engine packages intended for use in specially constructed vehicles (i.e., kit cars). Hobbyists choosing to install engines certified via the new procedure would be able to register their vehicles for use in California without needing to obtain a Certificate of Sequence from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and utilizing Health and Safety Code section 44017.4. Staff believes creating a certification path for such engine packages could result in emission benefits compared to existing specially constructed vehicle practices, and would offer a new option to hobbyists.
