A Public Workshop has been Scheduled for Proposed Changes to the Transport Refrigeration Unit (TRU) Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM). Staff of the California Air Resources Board (ARB or Board) invites all interested parties to a public workshop to be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2010, (10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon PST) in the Byron Sher Auditorium at the Cal/EPA Headquarters at 1001 I Street, Sacramento, California. The workshop will also be available through webcast. The webcast connection is at: http://www.calepa.ca.gov/broadcast. The official Public Workshop Notice will be issued in the next few days and will be sent out to the TRU List Serve and posted on the TRU Website at that time at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/tru/tru.htm. Background TRUs or reefers are refrigeration systems powered by diesel internal combustion engines designed to control the environment of temperature-sensitive products that are transported in trucks, trailers, shipping containers, and railcars. These units operate at California distribution centers, grocery stores, and other facilities which are often in close proximity to residential neighborhoods. The emissions from these units pose a potential threat to both public health and the environment. In 2004, the TRU Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) was adopted to reduce diesel particulate matter (PM) emissions from TRU engines. Amendments were adopted by the Board in November 2010, and became effective March 7, 2011.
