The Enforcement Division has just posted a new Consumer Products Enforcement Advisory #422: Hairspray/Hair Styling Products. The Advisory can be found on the California Air Resources Board (ARB)web site at http://www.arb.ca.gov/enf/advs/advs422.pdf. This advisory reminds manufacturers of hair care products about the distinction between hairsprays and hair styling products under the California Consumer Products Regulations. Background: ARB’s Consumer Products Program is an important part of overall efforts to reduce the amount of smog-forming volatile organic compounds (VOC), toxic air contaminants and greenhouse gases that are emitted from the use of chemically formulated consumer products. ARB’s consumer products regulations have resulted in projected emissions reductions of nearly 50 percent since 1990.
