consprod -- Newly Effective Consumer Products Regulation

Posted: 20 Oct 2010 15:17:48
On Monday, September 20, 2010, the Office of Administrative Law
(OAL) approved amendments to the Consumer Products Regulation,
that were approved by the California Air Resources Board (ARB) on
September 24, 2009. The regulation was filed with the Secretary
of State on September 20, 2010, and becomes legally effective
today, October 20, 2010.

We have posted the Final Regulation Order as approved by OAL at:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/consprod/regs/gencpregs.htm.

General information about the Consumer Products Program is
available at the following address:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/consprod/consprod.htm.

Background: ARB’s Consumer Products Program is an important part
of overall efforts to reduce the amount of smog-forming volatile
organic compounds (VOC), toxic air contaminants, and greenhouse
gases that are emitted from the use of chemically formulated
consumer products. ARB’s consumer products regulations have
resulted in projected emissions reductions of nearly 50 percent
since 1990, but more needs to be done to meet health-based air
quality standards. The amendments to the regulation are designed
to further reduce the amount of air pollutants emitted from
various categories of consumer products.
