tru -- Proventia FTF diesel particulate filter now CARB-verified for model year 2003 TRU engines

Posted: 19 Oct 2010 14:14:31
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has revised the
verification for the Proventia FTF/Bobtail FTF to cover model
year (MY) 2003 engines used on trailer transport refrigeration
units (TRU) and bobtail truck TRUs.

This action was taken in anticipation of CARB’s planned amendment
to the TRU Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM), which will
change the in-use performance standard for MY 2003 engines from
the current Ultra-Low Emission TRU (ULETRU) in-use standard to
include, as an option, the less stringent Low-Emission TRU
(LETRU) in-use standard. MY 2003 TRU engines are required to
comply with one of these in-use standards (ULETRU or LETRU) by
December 31, 2010. This compliance deadline will not change.
Enforcement of the in-use standards for MY 2003 engines begins
January 1, 2011.

The Proventia FTF/Bobtail FTF diesel particulate filter reduces
diesel particulate matter (PM) emissions at least 50 percent,
plus it complies with the 20 percent NO2 limit, qualifying it as
a Level 2 Plus Verified Diesel Emissions Control Strategy
(VDECS). This verification allows the Proventia FTF/Bobtail FTF
to be used as a retrofit compliance option to meet the TRU ATCM’s
LETRU in-use standard. It can be used on most Thermo King
trailer TRUs using 1985 through 2003 model year Isuzu and Yanmar
engines. CARB has also verified the Proventia Bobtail FTF, which
can be used to comply with LETRU on most Thermo King truck TRUs
using 1987 through 2004 model year engines and most Carrier
Transicold truck TRUs using 1994 through 2004 model year Kubota
engines. Specific engine models and families that the Proventia
FTF/Bobtail FTF can be used with are listed in Executive Order
DE-09-001-01, Attachment 1, which will be posted within a few
days on the ARB Verification Procedure - Level 2 website at:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/verdev/level2/level2.htm.

Additional information related to the Proventia FTF and Bobtail
FTF is available at the Proventia website at:

A complete list of TRU VDECS that can be used to retrofit TRUs
for compliance with the in-use standards is located at the bottom
section of CARB's TRU website.
