AB 32 Study Prompts Crackdown On Academic Reports. A
controversial study of impacts that California's landmark
greenhouse gas emissions could have on small businesses sparked
legislation that was passed Monday by the Assembly. Assembly Bill
2656, would require college administrators, professors or staff
members who receive public funds for outside research to certify
that their work will comply with academic standards of their
college. Posted.

Opinion: Cap and Flee. California refutes its own 'green jobs'
policy. California, that former land of opportunity, was one of
the first states to pass its own version of "cap and trade" to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2007 when Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger signed the law, called AB-32, he said it would
propel California into an economy-expanding, green job future.
Well, a new study by the state's own auditing agency—its version
of the Congressional Budget Office—has burst that green bubble.

Editorial: Kicking Energy Prices Up, Jobs Out. A damning report
by the state's nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office says the
controversial Global Warming Solutions Act to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions will drive up energy prices, force businesses to
delay expansion or flee the state and put California at a
competitive disadvantage. We're not surprised. We've made that
case since the law, Assembly Bill 32, was passed in 2006. Posted.

Editorial: The Propaganda Campaign Against Obama’s Tougher Fuel
Economy Rules. Predictably, the fossil fuel industry's "think
tanks" are using half-truths to poison public opinion against
improved fuel standards. Detroit automakers fought successfully
to fend off tougher fuel economy rules for nearly two decades, so
it was a little disorienting to see them cheering last week as
President Obama announced a new crackdown. Posted.

Editorial: Obama Seizing Moment With Tougher Mileage Rules. With
spilled oil washing up on the Louisiana coast, it's the right
time to push new energy policies. That's why the White House
rolled out improved mileage standards for cars, trucks and
highway big rigs. Over the next year the Obama team will devise
rules that could bring about sweeping changes for many reasons:
Heavy-duty trucks will be included for the first time,
manufacturers are on board, and the federal action could end a
fight between California and Washington, D.C., over fuel
conservation. Posted.

UN Reminds Rich Countries Of Climate Promises. Berlin — The
outgoing U.N. climate chief says industrialized countries need to
live up to their promises of help for poor nations in fighting
global warming to make progress toward a climate deal this year.
Yvo de Boer said Tuesday that a new round of expert-level U.N.
talks starting in Bonn next week could advance the still-sketchy
draft of the envisioned global climate treaty which is to take
effect after 2012. Posted.

Apa, Everest Sherpa: Global Warming Makes Climbing Harder.
Katmandu, Nepal — A Nepalese Sherpa who climbed Mount Everest for
a record 20th time said Tuesday that the melting of glacier ice
along its slopes due to global warming is making it increasingly
difficult to climb the peak. "The rising temperature on the
mountains has melted much ice and snow on the trail to the
summit. It is difficult for climbers to use their crampons on the
rocky surfaces," Apa told reporters after flying to Katmandu on
Tuesday. Posted.

Fontana Officials To Consider Resolution Opposing Global Warming
Law. Fontana - A controversial global climate law will likely get
a thumbs-down vote from the City Council on Wednesday night.
Officials will consider a resolution in support of a November
ballot initiative backed heavily by energy companies that would
temporarily suspend AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of
2006, which requires the state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
to 1990 levels by 2020. Posted.

Climate Fears Turn to Doubts Among Britons. London — Last month
hundreds of environmental activists crammed into an auditorium
here to ponder an anguished question: If the scientific consensus
on climate change has not changed, why have so many people turned
away from the idea that human activity is warming the planet?
Nowhere has this shift in public opinion been more striking than
in Britain, where climate change was until this year such a
popular priority that in 2008 Parliament enshrined targets for
emissions cuts as national law. Posted.

Nonpartisan Proof: Cap-and-Trade Is an Economy-Killer. Last
week, in what the National Academy of Sciences declared "the most
comprehensive report ever on climate change," three studies
requested by Congress were unfurled, providing sweeping proposals
for an aggressive federally based strategy to deal with climate
change. Posted.

New Group (AREAS) Advocates for Clean, Safe Renewable Energy.
Denver--The current oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The
recent coal tragedy in West Virginia. The call by the National
Academy of Sciences last week for actions to reduce carbon
emissions in response to climate change. The future risk of
financially devastating monthly home heating, cooling, and
electricity bills for American families. How can we deal with
these threats to our national and individual security? Posted.

worsening in California, has good news for people living between

Opinion: Just Say No To The "Dirty Energy Proposition". There's
a move afoot to dismantle California's road map to a clean energy
future. Bankrolled by Texas oil companies Valero and Tesoro, the
"Dirty Energy Proposition" slated for the November ballot would
suspend AB 32, California's landmark law designed to promote
renewable energy and reduce air pollution. This legislation,
passed by a bipartisan majority and signed by Gov.
Schwarzenegger, is making California an international leader in
clean technology. Posted.

Global Warming Cap-And-Trade Disaster. The global warming
alarmists, despite things having cooled off for a really long
time, continue to press for their pinnacle of government control
and private wealth redistribution: cap-and-trade laws. There are
a few things to be mindful of while listening to the hype about
saving us from a threat that doesn’t exist. We provide a summary
here, courtesy of James M. Taylor, an advocate of sound science
and free-market environmentalism and senior fellow for The
Heartland Institute on environmental issues. Posted.

Sex, Lies and Global Warming. Hypocrisy among public figures is
nothing new. But lately we've been witnessing examples that
represent seemingly new dimensions of mind-numbing duplicity.
First there was John Edwards running for President, earnestly
presenting himself as a model husband standing by his wife while
she dealt bravely with cancer. And then we had Tiger Woods,
making hundreds of millions from product endorsements which
projected an image of the golfer as composed, dignified and
exemplary. Posted.

Opinion: Important To Follow All Of The Money. A letter writer
tells us "cui bono" ("follow the money") when thinking about
global warming ("Just follow the money," May 9). The writer then
states, "Unless there are ways to make money as an
environmentalist that I do not know about, they have no
motivation." Two words: Al Gore. He has made more than $100
million from the global hoax. Has the writer not heard of carbon
trading? Follow the money, indeed. Carbon trading is simply
having one company buy a credit from someone else so they can
continue to pollute. How ridiculous is that? Posted.
