West Marin Ranchers Hope To Turn Pasture Pollution Into Cow
Power. West Marin ranchers are seeking ways to turn a source of
greenhouse gas emissions into a renewable energy supply. That
source is dairy cows, which produce about 3 percent of the
methane, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide in the United States
that researchers believe contribute to global warming. Posted.

Fran Pavley: There They Go Again With “Chicken Little” Attacks
on AB32. When AB 32, California’s landmark global warming law,
was being debated in the legislature, a coalition of polluters
and their misguided allies opposed the bill. This week these same
opponents, who have also fought against clean air and water
quality laws, are unveiling an initiative to suspend AB 32,
predicting the sky will fall if the law is implemented. They
predict that thousands of Californians would lose their jobs, and
it will crush small businesses. Posted.

Separating Fact from Fable on Climate Change. These pages have
recently been graced by replies to a letter by David Biggar
(“Climate science valid, despite Anglia affair,” Jan. 16). It is
hard to know where to start when considering the collection of
falsehoods, urban legends and half-truths that make up Joseph
Sabella’s and Kevin Hangman’s letters on climate change and
measures to combat catastrophic climate disruption. Posted.

Administration Presses On for a 'Cap' on Carbon Emissions. The
Obama administration's top climate adviser strongly defended a
cap on emissions a day after the president suggested Congress
might move an energy bill without such a cap in place. Posted.

House Bill Would Prevent EPA Regulating Carbon. The lawmakers
say Congress, not "unelected bureaucrats," should set
environmental policy. Congress has squabbled for months over a
comprehensive climate change bill. Some members say the best bet
is to encourage renewable energy production. The Environmental
Protection Agency cleared the way for regulation under air
pollution laws a month ago, when it ruled that greenhouse gases
endanger human health. Posted.

power, but it’s also a critical and immediate solution to cutting
pollution. Today, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom announced
$19.2 million in funding for energy efficiency programs through
the San Francisco Energy Watch program and the American Recovery

Obama's Energy Policy: More Corn Ethanol, Clean' Coal. The Obama
administration Wednesday announced plans to boost the use of
biofuels - including more ethanol from corn - and speed up work
on a plan to capture carbon dioxide from coal, now the biggest
source of global warming pollution.

ethanol. Posted.

New Biofuels Regs Could Still Face Fight From Capitol Hill. New
Obama administration biofuels regulations would give ethanol a
larger share of the U.S. renewable fuels mix, but not enough to
satisfy some farm-state lawmakers on Capitol Hill. U.S. EPA
Administrator Lisa Jackson yesterday announced the new
regulations for low-carbon fuels, which would implement the
long-awaited renewable fuels standard that Congress included in
the 2007 energy bill. The final rule is friendlier to ethanol
than a proposal EPA floated last year, which incited bipartisan
rage from Midwestern lawmakers, who thought the analysis was
unfair to farmers and ethanol producers. Posted.
