diesel-retrofit -- Deadline for Installation of Diesel Emissions Control Systems that Do Not Comply with the January 1, 2010 Directionality Reqt.
Posted: 23 Dec 2009 11:30:20
Section 2706(r) of the Verification Procedure, Warranty and In-Use Compliance Requirements for In-Use Strategies to Control Emissions from Diesel Engines requires verified diesel emission control strategies (VDECS) installed on or after January 1, 2010 that include an aftertreatment device such as a diesel particulate filter, must be designed such that the aftertreatment device can only be installed on the application in one unique direction. In addition, any new aftertreatment device installed in the period between February 19, 2009 and December 31, 2009 must indicate the proper direction of exhaust flow so the end user can clearly see how to properly install the device. Consistent with staff’s proposed changes to the Verification Procedure that will be considered by the Air Resources Board (ARB) at its January meeting, ARB staff will allow for a six month “sell-through” period for VDECS that do not meet the January 1, 2010 requirements of section 2706(r) regarding the unidirectional flow requirements, provided that the VDECS meets the following requirements: • Indicates proper direction of the exhaust flow through the device (per the February 19, 2009 requirements of section 2706(r)), • Has a date of manufacture no later than December 31, 2009, • Is installed no later than July 1, 2010. If you have any questions concerning this, please contact Ms. Shawn Daley, Manger, at 626-575-6972 or by email to sdaley@arb.ca.gov, or Mr. Juan Avila, staff, at 626-575-7098 or by email to javila@arb.ca.gov.
