Studies: Fighting Global Warming Reduces Diseases. Cutting
global warming pollution would not only make the planet
healthier, it would make people healthier too, newly released
studies say. Slashing carbon dioxide emissions could save
millions of lives, mostly by reducing preventable deaths from
heart and lung diseases, the studies show. Posted.

Stolen E-Mails Sharpen a Brawl between Climate Scientists and
Skeptics. The University of East Anglia said yesterday that it
was cooperating with police and launching its own internal probe
into how thousands of e-mails and documents from its Climatic
Research Unit ended up on the Internet last week, sparking an
ongoing fight between climate scientists and skeptics who say the
data breach suggests ethical lapses in the research community.

David A. Fahrenthold: Ads Change Minds on Climate Change. For
marketers, climate guilt isn't the easiest thing to sell. Part of
the audience doesn't have it and doesn't want it; they think
climate change is fake, fuzzy or too far in the future to care
about. Another segment of the audience already has too much of
it. They believe in climate change so fervently that they're too
paralyzed or resigned to respond to new messages. Posted.

Product Displacement: The Inside Scoop On 9 Household Items.
Remember the 1980s? Sure you do — it was the decade of big hair,
metal bands and acid-wash jeans. 1985 was also the public debut
of the hole in the ozone layer. Scientists warned that the layer
was being weakened by, among other things, the
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) found in aerosol cans like the ones
used to style the aforementioned big hair. Posted.

Californians Could Save $31 Billion and Cut GHG Emissions by
More Than One-Third by Living in Smart Growth Communities. While
some people are questioning whether California can overcome its
dominant car culture in order to meet ambitious greenhouse gas
reduction targets, a new study from TransForm shows that doing so
is both the most cost-effective and environmentally sound option.

True Cause of Road Rage: Exposure to Gas Fumes? A lot of things
can make people angry when they head to the gas station: the
outrageous prices, having to wait in an awkward car-line, bad
smells, and so on. But there's actually one thing that may be
making you really mad without your even knowing it: exposure to
the gasoline itself. A recent study has revealed that exposure to
fumes from unleaded and leaded gas can cause heightened
aggression. Posted.

Global warming, the next partisan divide [Updated]. It's true
that we have not yet seen the finale on healthcare reform. Nor
have we heard the last about President Obama's Afghanistan
policy. Or about financial regulatory reform that could pit Main
Street against Wall Street. But you can tell that the next issue
on the horizon, after the smoke has cleared from the current
debates, is global warming. Posted.

lay out his roadmap to achieving the goal of reducing greenhouse
gas emission 83 percent by 2050, with benchmarks of achieving a
30 percent reduction from 2005 emission levels in 2025 and a 42
percent reduction off those levels by 2030, according to
officials and a memo released by the White House. Posted.
