arbcombo -- Off-road Diesel Vehicle Regulation Applies to Certain Rail Equipment
Posted: 17 Jun 2009 15:51:21
ARB staff would like to clarify that rail vehicles, such as track mobiles, rail sweepers, wheel cranes, and certain others, are subject to the in-use off-road diesel vehicle regulation if they can be used off the rail (for example, rail vehicles which also have rubber tires) and are not already covered by the cargo handling equipment regulation. Rail and locomotive companies may own or operate a variety of vehicles which commonly have rubber tires, such as track maintenance equipment, allowing them to be used off of the rail. If these vehicles are not already covered by the cargo handling equipment regulation, they are subject to the in-use off-road diesel vehicle regulation. Among other things, the regulation requires that off-road diesel vehicles be reported to ARB and labeled, beginning April 1, 2009. The regulation also introduces emission performance standards as early as March 1, 2010, for large fleets. ARB has released the following guide to assist fleets when determining whether their rail equipment/vehicles are included in the off-road diesel regulation: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/ordiesel/faq/faqrail.pdf For those with affected vehicles, please review our outreach materials, or contact ARB staff, to ensure you are aware of the emissions requirements and the reporting requirements for off-road diesel vehicles. For additional information on the regulation, please visit the off-road Knowledge Center webpage at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/ordiesel/knowcenter.htm. The online reporting tool, along with guides and FAQs on reporting, can be found at https://secure.arb.ca.gov/ssldoors/doors_reporting/reporting.php You are receiving this single arbcombo email because you are a subscriber to or have made a public comment to one or more of the following lists: loco, railyard.
