AIR POLLUTION

Studying dust around the Salton Sea, scientists find initial
answers. Anyone who lives along the shore of the Salton Sea will
tell you how the winds can rake across stretches of exposed
lakebed and send dust floating through their neighborhoods. But
until recently, no one had real estimates of how much dust from
the lakebed is in the air around the lake on any given day.

Banning ALL cars is the only way to beat air pollution CRISIS,
claims adviser.
A LEADING government adviser has said the only way to beat the
air pollution crisis in the UK is a total ban on of all cars.
After the recent government ban of petrol and diesel car sales by
2040 in the UK, many were outraged. Some, devastated over by the

Trump Notifies UN of Paris Exit While Keeping Option to Return.
The Trump administration began the formal process to withdraw
from the Paris climate accord, but says it’s willing to
"re-engage" if terms more favorable to the U.S. are met. The
State Department said it notified the United Nations that the
U.S. will pull out of the global agreement as soon as it can
under the terms of the 2015 accord…

A flood of problems. Peru’s glaciers have made it a laboratory
for adapting to climate change. It’s not going well. After a day
of bright sunshine, a chunk of ice the size of a dump truck broke
off the glacier on Mount Pucaranra a few weeks ago. It plunged
into the lake below and kicked up a wave nine feet high. Victor
Morales, a small, catlike man with a tattered ski cap who is the
lake’s solitary watchman…

Citizen scientists track effects of climate change in the
Northwest. At the pace of a wedding march, a group of six hikers
saunters down the Sunrise Rim Trail on a recent Wednesday
morning. Over their left shoulders, Mount Rainier’s Emmons
Glacier wilts against a sapphire backdrop. Suddenly, Tucker
Grigsby, an intern with the National Park Service…

Both Sides Of Climate Change Debate Distort Science, Block
Solutions, Expert Says. As the planet heats up, so does the
rhetoric on both sides of the climate-change debate. Former Vice
President Al Gore has a new film out about the dangers of global
warming. His film follows a New York magazine article asserting
that “absent a significant adjustment…

Death Valley set record for hottest month in U.S. history with
average temperature of 107.39 degrees. Hell on Earth: With an
average temperature of 107.39 degrees in July, Death Valley set
the record for hottest month at a single location in U.S.
history. Keep in mind that that number is an average of all the
high and low temperatures. The average daily high temperature was
an unbearable 119.6 degrees.

US federal department is censoring use of term 'climate change',
emails reveal.
Exclusive: series of emails show staff at Department of
Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service advised to

Here's the Obama energy guy that Pruitt might hire. In the fall
of 2014, Steven Koonin was finishing up an op-ed for The Wall
Street Journal. The theme was a contentious one, especially for a
former Obama administration energy official: How certain is
climate science? Koonin sent a draft around to about a dozen
people he considers "friendly critics." He wanted their feedback.

'Huge test' for Gov. Cuomo's climate leadership. On June 1,
fuming over President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris
Agreement, a trio of Democratic governors formed an alliance
aimed at keeping the United States on track to meet the Paris
targets. Two months later, the governors who founded the U.S.
Climate Alliance are looking for wins on the climate front.

Electric truck trial benefits for US port. Oakland says the
electric truck trial fits well with its emission-reduction
efforts. A US port could benefit from a feasibility trial of cost
effective zero-emission freight handling using all-electric
trucks. GSC Logistics said that its three-year trial to test
battery-powered big rig technology will take place at the Port of
Oakland from this September, and depending on the outcome, these
trucks could be integrated into its fleet.

OPINIONS

Climate change is about science and solutions. As a university
teacher, I have been baffled why some of my adult students follow
me with enthusiasm and open-mindedness in all aspects of science
except climate change. I do understand that climate change is
scary, and I personally do not want to think about it and hence
would prefer not to teach it. I have been more enthusiastic about
teaching climate change once I found a viable solution to this
complex problem with carbon-fee-and-dividend.

Editorial: Government rules ruined the simple gas can. Consider
the lowly gas can - something many of us fill on a regular basis,
if we want to keep ahead of our lawns. The gas can is a model of
inefficiency and misguided government regulations. It’s also an
object lesson in bureaucracy gone bad.

The Nitrogen Problem: Why Global Warming Is Making It Worse. New
research shows that increases in rainfall and extreme weather
because of climate change will increase the amount of nitrogen
polluting rivers and other waterways. It is a painful lesson of
our time that the things we depend on to make our lives more
comfortable can also kill us. Our addiction to fossils fuels is
the obvious example…

To Stop Global Warming, Should Humanity Dim the Sky? The world’s
top geoengineering researchers met off the record to discuss the
possibility in Maine last month. An aircraft tries to seed clouds

around the world gathered at Logan International Airport in
Boston. A fleet of buses appeared to whisk them to a remote and
luxurious ski resort in northeastern Maine.
