Low vapor pressure-volatile organic compounds (LVP-VOCs) are a
set of VOCs currently exempted for VOC content based on a
combination of boiling point, vapor pressure, and/or elution time
from a GC-column. This work explores evaporation rates and
secondary pollutant formation from a series of individual
LVP-VOCs associated with consumer products, select generic
consumer products that include these LVP-VOCs, and several
hydrocarbon solvents. For more go to the announcement at:

CAP AND TRADE

Defying Trump, these state leaders are trying to impose their own
carbon taxes. While the Trump administration continues to
consider a withdrawal from the Paris agreement, climate action in
the United States is increasingly falling to the state and local
level. And now, a handful of states, mainly clustered in New
England, are turning to the concept of carbon pricing with a
renewed sense of urgency.

AIR POLLUTION

Warmer weather means higher rates of ozone pollution in Central
Valley. The warmer the weather becomes, the more aware Valley
residents should be of ozone pollution, the dominant pollutant in
the summertime that can damage lung tissue, said officials from
the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

Air pollution affects children and the elderly the most. Plumas
County air quality routinely exceeds U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency standards. This excessive pollution is related
to widespread severe forest fires, wood burning during
atmospheric inversion events and increased dust during droughts.

senior policy analyst for the American Lung Association of
California, Plumas County air exceeded EPA small particle

Diesel cars generate even MORE pollution than first feared:
Emissions are linked 38,000 early deaths a year. Diesel driven
cars, lorries and buses churn out far more air pollution than
standard testing procedures suggest, leading to many thousands of
unreported deaths, scientists claim. The excess emissions of
harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) exhaust gases can be linked to
38,000 premature deaths worldwide, according to the new research.

CLIMATE CHANGE

U.S. economic growth and security outweigh climate policy review,
envoy tells U.N. conference. The Trump administration will stay
focused on economic growth and national security no matter the
outcome of its climate change policy review, a U.S. official told
delegates at a United Nations convention in Germany on Saturday.

Climate change is shrinking the West’s water supply. Three new
studies show dry times ahead. Picture a snowflake drifting down
from a frigid February sky in western Colorado and settling high
in the Rocky Mountains. By mid-April, the alpine snowpack is
likely at its peak. Warming temperatures in May or June will then
melt the snow, sending droplets rushing down a mountain stream or
seeping into the soil to replenish an aquifer.

Climate Change Is Making Allergy Season Worse, Here Are Some Tips
To Alleviate Your Symptoms. If you’re suffering from allergies
more than previous years, climate change might have something to
do with it. People may get seasonal allergies during the spring,
summer and early fall, and it’s usually caused by sensitivity to
airborne mold spores or to pollens from trees, grasses or weeds…

Tillerson says US won't be rushed on climate change policies.
Arctic nations have renewed calls for the world to address
climate warming, but U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says
the United States will not rush to make a decision on its
policies. Tillerson spoke Thursday in Fairbanks, Alaska, at a
meeting of the Arctic Council, an advisory group made up of the
eight Arctic nations and indigenous groups.

UK faces sharp rise in destructive wind storms due to global
warming. If climate change heats world by more than 1.5C, damaged
buildings are likely to increase by over 50% across Midlands,
Yorkshire and Northern Ireland. The UK is set to reap the
whirlwind of climate change with the huge damage caused by wind
storms expected to increase sharply, according to new analysis.

DIESEL ACTIVITIES

Global Tailpipe Tests Vastly Underestimate Diesel Pollution.
Pollution from diesel trucks, buses and cars globally is more
than 50 percent higher than levels shown in government lab tests,
a new study says. That extra pollution translated to another
38,000 deaths from soot and smog in 2015, the researchers
estimated. The work published Monday in the journal Nature was a
follow-up to the testing…

New international study finds lab testing of diesel NOx emissions

Largest U.S. Electric School Bus Pilot Comes to California.
California had to first clear a legal hurdle with its
one-of-a-kind, cap-and-trade fund. An appeals court ruled last
month that the program requiring companies to purchase permits
for emitting certain levels of greenhouse gases does not
constitute an unconstitutional tax and could proceed. It's the
largest single deployment of electric school buses nationwide.

OPINIONS

Treat climate change symptoms and don't worry about the cause.
For the vast majority of scientists, global warming is a fact.
Not so for many conservatives and Republicans, who believe it is
a ruse to impose new taxes and regulations on the economy. “The
concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in
order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive,” President
Trump said in a 2012 tweet.

Talking Point: A two-speed response to climate change. WHEN you
think about it, it’s breathtaking. The 2017 Federal Budget is

The U.S. Tips Its Hand, Showing It Will Likely Join The Global
Climate Talks. When it comes to President Trump’s thinking on
climate change, the White House has put its cards on the table —
that such efforts are essentially a waste of national time and
treasure. However, when it comes to joining the Paris climate
accord, the administration is tipping its hand and might be
taking a seat at the table.

Can biofuels save us from climate apocalypse? If humanity has any
hope of stopping the civilization-threatening climate change
crisis, gas-powered cars have to go. But how are people supposed
to get around without them? Public transit is one answer, as are
electric cars. And then there are biofuels, which present the
tempting halfway prospect of carbon-neutral automobiles that can
use technology very similar to that which already exists.

scientists into the mix, including industry ones.

Heat on for Australia's Great Barrier Reef when global
temperatures hit 1.5C. When global warming hits 1.5°C or 2°C,
extreme events grow in frequency. If global temperatures hit
1.5°C above pre-industrial conditions -- the target negotiated at

will see a repeat of the extreme ocean heat that severely damaged
the Great Barrier Reef in 2016.

A Small Senate Victory Maintains Methane Regulation. The Trump
administration’s relentless march to repeal federal regulations
is not limited to environmental rules, but the environment is a
real target. The shame of these attacks is that rather than
seeking to improve and refine our approach to environmental
protection, we see a destructive effort at dismantling the
structure of environmental law.
