Comment:
A recent article in the San Jose MercuryNews (8/9/15, B-1) discussed the importance of control of industrial emmissions by auctions, cap and trade, etc. Why has there not been similar focus on preservation of carbon sequestration by the extensive forested watersheds of California? The Sierra Club has for several years been seeking public support to terminate the highly destructive timber harvest practice known as clear-cutting. Though approved by the Board of Forestry, that operation involves virtually all tree cover on 20 acre tracts, to prepare for tree farms aimed at corporate some 20 years in the future That is an inexcusable loss of trees' capacity to store carbon and keep it out of the atmosphere, along with the role of forests in water retention during our drought. How could the California Air Resources Board support that effort, recognizing that there is no human system to equal what nature's photosynthesis? Thank You
