SubjectEmissions Program??? Tires Check and Inflate???
Comment
To Whom It May Concern,

AAA roadside service, installing batteries, checking charging
systems and changing tires. Is this company exempt? If so, why?

A customer may decline the check and inflate service under the
following conditions:

(A) He or she has performed (or had performed) a tire pressure
check and inflate service
within the last 30 days,
or
(B) He or she will perform (or will have performed) a tire
pressure check and inflate
service within the next 7 days. (Emphasis added.)

What happens to the consumer when the check and inflate is not
done within 7 days or the past 30? Who tracks that?

What about unsafe tires and oversized tires? What is required
then? Can't inflate a bald tire? or just check and see their bald
and the consumer keeps driving on them? I don't want to take
responsibility for everyone and their brother too. We should all
be responsible citizens. Tire pressure check and inflate should be
a courtesy and not be mandated.

The State of California sends mixed messages.....we are
told....YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS! or is it, YOU
ARE NOT SMART ENOUGH TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS?

If in fact this is an emissions problem...I have a suggestion, add
a one liner to the smog inspection software...."Tires"....pass or
fail! This would put consumers on notice and they would start to
take responsibility for their own tires. It would hold consumers
accountable for their own actions. BAD TIRES, no registration. We
have an emissions program for vehicles, so let's use it to the
fullest extent. AB 2289 is still in the works and the new software
programs are still being developed. USE THEM.

Spend some time and money educating consumers on the benefits of
having tires properly inflated...saves fuel.....better
ride.....tires last longer.....save yourself.....save others...and
save the planet.

As of January 2008, all vehicles have TPMS. Continue to educate.

"Incorrectly inflated tires are known to have contributed to a
significant percentage of road accidents. Even when not producing
any straightforward accident, low pressure tires continuously harm
the environment by increasing the carbon dioxide emissions of the
car (and correcting it is completely costless and easy, as long as
you know the car has a problem)."

Respectfully,

Tracy Renee
