Our standard operating procedure has been to check and inflate
tires and spare tires during routine maintenance service, when
requested by a customer and before alignment procedures. A law
which requires documentation of the inspection on all vehicle's
opens a new avenue for unscrupulous attorneys to manipulate. It's
not hard to imagine how they would blackmail a shop owner who's
service writer made a clerical mistake. This regulation imposes
added liability for California small business owner's who are
stretched to the limit. If this regulation becomes law I guarantee
that shop owners will need to charge the consumer for the
additional liability, close their doors or relocate to a more
favorable economic climate. This regulation is bad for the state of
California, California small business owners and California
consumers. The regulation should not be adopted.
