Subject | Comment on AB32 Scoping Plan 08 |
Comment | It is perhaps our greatest present responsibility to address with all the force we can muster the global warming crisis that we have created and that jeopardizes the health and well-being of everyone on the planet now and for generations to come. California must take the lead in changing our land use and development patterns, ensuring that we implement strong measures to restrict sprawl and to highly promote and reward dense, compact, mixed-use, transit-effective, resource-efficient, walkable, healthy development. CARB must raise the land use target in the AB32 scoping plan from the current paltry 5 MMT of CO2 equivalent to at least 14 MMT. Business as usual got us into our current disastrous mode; business as usual will not get us out, and we have no time to lose in changing our ways. California must commit the financial and technical resources and the political will and example to help regions, local governments, and transportation agencies to reach the 14 MMT target. The expense and effort required to achieve this goal will be minimal compared to the expense and effort entailed by the consequences of not meeting it. We are counting on you to do what must be done now. The world is watching us. It's time to change. Thank you. |
