To the Members of the California Air Resources Board:

I urge you to uphold and protect California's low-carbon fuel
standard to reduce our dependence on dirty energy and fight global
warming. I ask you to reject any rule changes that would weaken the
standard.

The oil industry's attempt to exempt dirty, high-carbon fuels such
as oil mined from Canadian tar sands is unacceptable. As currently
crafted, the fuel standard is intended to encourage oil companies
to invest in cleaner fuel solutions, reducing greenhouse gas
pollution in California. The changes proposed by the oil industry
would undermine these intentions.

The standard must ensure that oil companies are not only ramping up
cleaner fuels but phasing out dirtier ones. The rule should be
strengthened to require each oil refinery to properly account for
its reliance on dirtier oil sources. By no means should the
low-carbon fuel standard be weakened to accommodate the use of
dirty and highly energy-intensive fuels like tar-sands oil.

Please vote to strengthen California's leadership on clean fuels
and reject oil-company efforts to undermine the low-carbon fuel
standard.

Thank you.
