Comment | Soils offer the single largest reservoir for safe and beneficial sequestration of excess atmospheric C02. I applaud the ARB's inclusion of sustainable agricultural practices in the draft cap-and-trade investment plan. Investments in the state’s existing land resources programs will provide climate and other environmental and health benefits. Additional investments in research, technical assistance and incentives will encourage farming practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, sequester carbon and help growers adapt to climate change. Active engagement with agriculture, as the most effective means of rapidly increasing rates of terrestrial sequestration of carbon, offers the single most effective strategy toward climate change mitigation, while offering the promise of productivity increases, soil and water quality improvement and enhanced quality of life for all Californian's. Thank you for taking decisive action to stop and reverse global warming through effective engagement with California's land managers.
