Subject | Cap & Trade Investment Plan |
Comment | I've been involved with agriculture and environmental issues in California for over 35 years, so I was glad to see that sustainable agriculture practices are included in the draft cap-and-trade investment plan. Organic farming and the local food movement have been areas of consistent economic growth for many years, so it is a win-win to invests in the state’s existing land resources programs. Additional investments are needed in research, technical assistance and incentives to encourage farming practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, sequester carbon and help growers adapt to climate change. I also support investments in farmland protection for growing food and fiber. Energy production should be distributed and as close as possible to where is used, and high value farmland close to urban areas is as important as large farms in rural areas. |
