Subject | Collaborative Research to Understand How to Reduce GHG Emissions from Nitrogen Land Applic |
Comment | Dear ARB, I would strongly recommend that any reserch into this subject should include examination of the effects of the application of compost to soils in the context of reducing nitrogen fertilizer requirements. Information on this topic can be found at the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service, the Soil Science Society of America, and the US Composting Council among many other sources. Diverting organics from landfill disposal to composting not only reduces GHG emissions resulting from landfill generated methane gas, it also reduces GHG emissions by reducing the need for application of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers in agricultural and landscaping applications. |
