Comment | I have sold building products for the last 25 years. The last 4 years I have immersed myself in "Moisture Management" in construction, both new and remodel. I have seen sealant failures due to substandard sealants. I have also dealt with contractor frustration when a silicone sealant just won't stick to a damp surface, nor could they paint over it. Professional sealants, those that include petroleum solvents, have proven to be the only year-round sealant contractors can use with confidence. I have seen the destruction leaks have caused around windows, on roofs and behind siding. Many homes have become uninhabitable due to these leaks and either the new homeowner is stuck with a home they can't resell or the builder is forced to spend thousands of dollars to correct the problem. California MUST allow contractors to be exempt from this ruling. Quality construction is a must and professional sealants are insurance they are doing everything possible to prevent mold issues and serious water damage. Please consider these issues and reduce all of the litigation that will result by restricting contractors on the sealants they can use and the seasons they can work. |
