OF TOXIC AIR CONTAMINANTS IN CALIFORNIA

public meeting at which it will hear presentations regarding and
discuss the identification and control of toxic air contaminants
in California.

TIME: Commencing at 10:00 a.m. on December 13,

                         Los Angeles, CA

Please consult the agenda for the meeting, which will be
available at least 10 days before December 13, 1984, for
information on the order in which specific issues will be
addressed.

In 1983, the Legislature enacted and the Governor signed into law
AB 1807 (Tanner, Stats 1983, ch 1047; Health and Safety Code
Section 39650 et seq., food and Agriculture Code Section 14021 et
seq.). AB 1807 establishes procedures for the identification of
toxic air contaminants and for the development and adoption of
measures for their control. At this public meeting, issues
relating to the Board's responsibilities under AB 1807 will be
discussed. Members of the Scientific Review Panel appointed
pursuant to AB 1807 (Section 39670, Health and Safety Code),
other scientists and staff of the ARB will be among those making
presentations at the meeting. Other speakers will be included
representatives of the Department of Health Services and local
air pollution control districts.

The presentations and discussion will include an overview of the
process established by AB 1807 for the identification and control
of toxic air contaminants, including a review of the
opportunities for public participation during that process. The
topics addressed will also include relevant aspects of
toxicology, epidemiological and animal studies, short-term tests,
dose response assessment and exposure assessment, and other
relevant topics. Major topics at the meeting will be risk
assessment, risk characterization, and risk management. No
regulations will be considered or adopted at the meeting.
