HEALTH UPDATE: Short-Term Health Effects Associated with Exposure to Air Pollution during Exercise
Health impacts from pollution are a concern to the public; however, specific populations may have an even greater risk from air pollution. One group at risk, that is often overlooked, is comprised of people who exercise outdoors. At this Health Update, ARB staff will present findings from studies which investigate the effects of exposure during exercise and examine the associations between traffic‑related air pollution and health outcomes, including airway inflammation and decreases in lung function. Part of this presentation will include ways for those exercising outdoors to reduce their exposure to potentially harmful air pollutants.
